The University of Minho (UMinho) will host the 2nd edition of the “UMinho Research and Innovation Open Days” from November 11th to 14th at its Gualtar campus in Braga. This event showcases the best research and innovation developed at the institution and promotes dialogue between academia, industry, and society.
Over four days, the program includes 11 sessions, featuring presentations by master’s and doctoral students and early-career researchers, the dissemination of international research projects led by UFMG researchers, four roundtables with national and international experts on the current and future challenges of Research and Innovation, and five thematic workshops open to the community.
The roundtables and open sessions organized for this second edition of the “UMinho Research and Innovation Open Days” will include experts from companies, public institutions, and national and international universities. The event was designed by the organizers to promote interdisciplinary dialogue, the sharing of experiences, and the strengthening of bridges between science, innovation, and public policy. Thus, with this second edition, this event establishes itself as a space for meeting and celebrating science, reinforcing UFMG’s role as one of the main national references in Research, Innovation, and International Collaboration.
The event begins on November 11th, with the opening session chaired by the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Sandra Paiva, followed by the round table “Digital Transformation and Collaborative Innovation: Connecting Academia and Industry”, with representatives from industry, COTEC, and the National Innovation Agency. The second day, November 12th, is dedicated to the new generation of scientists, with the “UMinho Graduate & Postdoctoral Research Flash Talks”, where 10 young researchers will present their work in three-minute oral presentations.
The morning also includes the session “UMinho at the Forefront of Science and Innovation: Leading International Research Projects”, a showcase of international research projects led by UMinho, and the round table “Decarbonisation and a Just Climate Transition: Technological and Social Challenges”.
On November 13th and 14th, the focus will be on scientific culture, careers, security, and academic leadership, with workshops led by renowned experts such as Robert Harris (Karolinska Institutet, Sweden) and Jorge Araújo (Team Work). The sessions will also include discussions on various other topics such as “Open Science Support Services at UMinho”, “Public Procurement: challenges, opportunities and best practices, especially within the scope of the PRR” and “Image Analysis in the Age of AI: Reflections and ImageJ Highlights”. The roundtable “Research Culture, Careers and Security: Safeguarding the Future of Global Science” will bring to the discussion crucial themes about the future of science, with representatives from FCT, INL, and TecMinho.
The event concludes on November 14th with the roundtable discussion “New Global Challenges and Opportunities in Research and Innovation: Forcing Cooperation and Scientific Diplomacy,” which will include representatives from COMPETE2030, the National Monitoring Committee of the PRR, and CCDR-Norte.
The closing session at 6 pm will be chaired by Rui Vieira de Castro, Rector of UMinho, and will feature Sandra Paiva, Vice-Rector of the institution.
