Project Title

Project of a Flower, Keys to the Construction of Sacred Space on Earth

Abstract

If “project design” is about “moving forwards,” what can make it a movement towards the sacred? “The Project of a Flower” addresses this question by presenting a pattern that crosses temporal, spatial and cultural boundaries and is emphasized though calamity and human-limit situations. Although there are interpretations that employ similar analogies to indicate the presence of the sacred, they have been tangentially used in specific areas and nothing has been found to reveal their current relevance to the contemporary architectural design. Based on the centrality of this pattern in different case studies, the thesis seeks to resignify the architect labour based on central themes, such as: revelation, transcendence, inspiration, multi-dimensionality, immanence and freedom. In this trajectory, the argument seeks to reveal at its core the qualities of space, process and foundation in the context of architectural design project. In conclusion, an interpretation is offered concerning an omitted facet of the role of the architect, mysteriously suspended between his craft and the ineffable.
