Project Title
Geographies of Childhood: Pedestrian Accessibility and Collaborative Planning in the Construction of Child-Friendly Cities
Abstract
Sustainable mobility, particularly focused on school trips, has been discussed on the current urban agenda, suported by the paradigm of sustainability. However, although there is a growing research focused the independent mobility of children, namely in the area of social sciences, rarely aplly methods that try to evaluate the quality of built environment in access to schools, based on the combination of objective and subjective / perceived data by children. In addition to this issue, children continue to be excluded from decision-making processes of urban planning. Thus, this investigation aims to address the theme of Children’s Geographies, through the pedestrian accessibility of children to the Primary Schools of Braga (classified as “Child Friendly City”, since 2016) and promoting their participation through collaborative methods.
