Project Title

WHAT UNITES US AND WHAT SEPARATES US – The Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion on the border of Europe: a history of territories, memories and identities (1960-2025)

Abstract

This project aims to study the historical process of the creation and development of the Galicia-Northern Portugal Euroregion, based on the framework of political and territorial organization and management of the European Union (context of the creation of the Euroregions), determined by the diverse historical background regarding the claim for regional autonomies, by the change of political regimes (dictatorship/democracy) in Portugal and Spain, and by integration into European bodies, namely entry into the EEC, discussing narratives and representations associated with the centrality/periphery of these regions and countries in relation to the European context.
