Project title
DfAM Methodologies for 3DP Building Envelope Components
Abstract
The research develops and validates Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) methodologies for 3D-printed building envelope components. It integrates computational design, performance assessment and digital fabrication, focusing on opaque and multifunctional façade components. The work explores cellular geometries, including triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS), closed cavities and hybrid configurations, mainly fabricated through Liquid Deposition Modelling (LDM). The aim is to support the development of customizable and context-adaptable components able to improve thermal performance, moisture management and material efficiency. The research also includes the development of WASPer_3DP, an open Grasshopper plugin that connects geometry generation, morphological characterization, simplified performance assessment and fabrication preparation within a single parametric workflow.
