Title

The treatment of poverty from a political economy perspective: Basque-Navarrese hospices through social actors (1700-1850)

Resume

The main objective of this research project is to expand knowledge about the set of changes of a social and economic nature that, supported by the principles of political economy and driven by certain social sectors, had a growing impact, especially from the second half of the 18th century. In this sense, the study of hospices is proposed as a point of special interest for further study of these processes. The aim is to study this type of establishments, their administrative and economic structures in a secondary place, to place the focus on the social actors, both in the sectors responsible for the foundation and management of these establishments, as well as their users. In our opinion, hospices offer a privileged space for study to analyze which sectors promoted the new principles of political economy, aimed at profoundly changing economic and social structures, while at the same time allowing us to learn a lot about the profile and circumstances of the most important sectors affected by these processes of change.
