Pedagogical Guide to the Manueline Style Through Images
Abstract
This research proposal as a visiting scholar at the University of Minho aims to investigate the genesis and development of the Manueline artistic movement, extending the analysis beyond the reign of King Manuel I. It is based on the hypothesis that the Manueline style manifests through multiple regional typologies across Portuguese territory, focusing on specific architectural and artistic features within mainland and island sites. The methodology relies on the in-situ iconographic and documentary survey of these monuments. As an academic counterpart, this knowledge will be transferred to the Brazilian academic landscape through the publication of an illustrated textbook. Aimed at university students, the book integrates local historical narratives and the aesthetic permanence of the style in Luso-Brazilian architecture, titled "Pedagogical Guide to the Manueline Style Through Images". This proposal aligns with the research developed by the Space and Representation (SpaceR) group at the School of Architecture, Art and Design of the University of Minho.
