2014 - Conservation, Valorization, and Promotion of the Convent of São Francisco de Real
The Convent of São Francisco de Real, under the ownership of the Municipality of Braga, forms an integral part of a monumental complex that also includes the Chapel of São Frutuoso de Montélios (a national monument, IPA.00001903) and the parish church of São Jerónimo (IPA.00006974). Recognizing the significant heritage value of the monastic building, despite its advanced state of ruin, and the ensemble as a whole (São Frutuoso is regarded as the foremost example of pre-Romanesque Christian architecture in Portuguese territory), there was a concerted effort to address its rehabilitation and open it to public visits. In pursuit of these objectives, an agreement was established among the University of Minho, the Municipality of Braga, the Regional Directorate of the Northern Culture, and the Parish of Real. This collaboration marks the promotion of a comprehensive architectural intervention project, approached from an integrated perspective encompassing heritage preservation, cultural enrichment, and the dissemination of knowledge.
