2024 - Geoarqueologia: Desvendando Narrativas Arqueológicas através da Identificação de Variáveis Humanas Chave - Projeto GeoArch
This project launches an extensive, transtemporal, transcultural and transdisciplinary exploratory study to identify key human archaeological variables that seamlessly integrates Environmental History and Geoarchaeology. The primary objective is to forge innovative research paths within the participating institutions, addressing a topic of escalating interest. The study centers on a meticulous examination of compositional data across diverse archaeological sites, each representing distinct occupation periods. Using a site-specific approach, the project systematically identifies anthropogenic signals in stratigraphic records, investigating geochemical indicators like mineralogy, organic matter, and historically relevant trace metals such as Cu, Sn, and Pb. Anticipated results include the revelation of key variables and their historical significance, shedding light on the evolutionary dynamics between society and nature over time. Employing this comprehensive approach, the project aspires to unravel the intricate relationships between human societies and their natural environments. By closely scrutinizing stratigraphic records, the initiative aims to uncover pivotal variables that not only enhance our comprehension of historical dynamics but also significantly contribute to unraveling the interplay between society and nature across various historical periods in a region that encompasses ancient Gallaecia, present-day Galicia and Northern Portugal.
