This research project aims to explore the affinities between the work, method, and ideas of Alvar Aalto and Álvaro Siza through multiple lenses, including conceptual frameworks, space perception, formal strategies, urban and landscape integration, construction techniques, environmental sustainability, geometry and design methods. In addition to Alvar Aalto’s formal influence on Álvaro Siza’s work—a fact the Portuguese architect has often acknowledged—other affinities will be explored, arising from parallels in ideas, design and method.
