2026 - Spain–Portugal Interreg Project: Gerês-Xurés Borderland: Sustainable Destination, Identity and Future
The project GERÊS-XURÉS: Sustainable Destination, Identity and Future, recently approved under the POCTEP programme, brings together twelve partners from Portugal and Spain, including the University of Minho.
The project focuses on the Gerês–Xurés Transboundary Biosphere Reserve, promoting a sustainable development model based on strengthening the shared identity between Galicia and Northern Portugal.
Its main objectives include enhancing the value of the region’s natural and cultural heritage, improving mobility, promoting sustainable tourism, and reinforcing social, economic, and ecological cohesion.
The project also includes educational initiatives, community engagement activities, as well as management and communication actions.
