The Hand That Holds and Rises in the Air is the project that includes this publication and a cycle of three exhibitions and took as Ana Hatherly’s artistic practice as a starting point, as well as the concepts of writing-image — “writing has never been anything but representation: image”, and poetry, words and art as forms of resistance and freedom. The title is a quotation from a brief passage from the text written by Maria Filomena Molder for the catalogue Ana Hatherly: Anagrammatic Territory, published in the homonymous exhibition held at Fundação Carmona e Costa, curated by João Silvério, between November 17, 2017 and January 13, 2018.
Organized by Pessoa Colectiva (Mafalda Santos & Susana Gaudêncio), the project lasted three years, was exhibited in three spaces in different cities and brought together three artists in their different voices.
