II Luso-Brazilian Summer School on Culture, Heritage and Territory
The 2nd edition of the Luso-Brazilian Summer School, this year dedicated to the theme “Culture, Heritage and Territory“, returns between July 1st and 17th, 2026, establishing itself as a space for advanced training, international cooperation and interdisciplinary reflection on the contemporary challenges of culture and heritage.
Aimed at undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students in the fields of Archaeology, History, Cultural Heritage, Education and Social Sciences, the initiative brings together Portuguese and Brazilian researchers, professors and students around the sharing of knowledge, methodologies and research experiences.
The Summer School has the collaboration of the Municipality of Braga and the Biscainhos Museum, which reinforces the connection between the university, museums and the community, promoting heritage as a privileged space for learning, dialogue and cultural participation.
Over three weeks, the program integrates specialized workshops, thematic sessions and field activities, promoting an interdisciplinary approach to the relationships between culture, heritage and territory. Among the topics under discussion are heritage education, cultural policies, community participation, scientific dissemination, and the potential of digital technologies in the documentation, interpretation, and appreciation of cultural heritage.
The practical component of the Summer School also includes activities developed at the Roman Theatre of Braga, providing participants with experiences of direct contact with archaeological contexts and applied research methodologies.

In parallel with the scientific program, the second edition of the educational project “Living Heritage for Children” will take place between July 8 and 10, 2026, developed in collaboration between Portuguese and Brazilian researchers and schools in the municipality of Vila Verde. This initiative aims to bring children closer to archaeological heritage through participatory methodologies, promoting dialogue between university, school and community, and valuing the role of children as active participants in the construction of knowledge about heritage and territory.

The II Luso-Brazilian Summer School thus reaffirms the commitment of the organizing institutions to the internationalization of knowledge, the advanced training of students and researchers, and the promotion of an increasingly close relationship between science, heritage, and society.
